Duplicate

March 21st 2008 01:37
Duplicate is a film which, after talking to some of my friends, wasn't the most liked film at the time. Are they serious? I loved this film.
Laced with slap stick comedy and an interesting plot, the 1998 production otherwise known as Duplicate is a comedy which stars bollywood beauties Juhi Chawla and Sonali Bendre.

The story revolves around innocent chef Bablu Chaudhury (ShahRukh Khan) who works at a hotel managed by his lady love Sonia (pronounced Sawwniyeah). Jailbird Manu (also played by ShahRukh), who looks the splitting image of Bablu, had recently escaped from prison and is on the run from police. As a result, confusion results among the policeforce who confuse innocent Bablu to criminal Manu. As the film progresses, while Bablu attempts to go about his daily life and romance the hotel banquet manager Sonia - he is interupted with police intervention and Manu taking advantage of their 'twin' situation.

Lily, played by Sonali Bendre adds a touch of glamour to the film playing Manu's saucy girlfriend who can't tell the difference between the two men. Farida Jalal plays bebe, Bablu's (ShahRukh Khan) dotting mother.

Duplicate contains many good song tracks, such as mere mehboob mere sanam, tum nahin jana, and ek shararat hone ko hai. The song videos are enjoyable to watch, with Juhi and Sonali decked in beautiful outfits.
Duplicate is filled with humour, chaos, and a voyeristic journey through the life of Bablu. Will Bablu be rid of Manu's wrath?
Duplicate, available with subtitles at participating stores.

Shahrukh Khan isn't in every Bollywood film, but tends to star in big budget mainstream cinema films that are usually successful. He has done allot of films though, i'm estimating around at least 25 films. Although usually found in mainstream cinema, he completed an art film in 1992 called Maya Memsaab (miss maya). I haven't watched the film yet as it's hard to find in stores.
His films from the 1990's are my favourites as they came in different genres.
